Devlog 4/1: New Character!
Hey Spiderlings!
It’s been about 2 months since our last update on this page, and we’ve been working hard at the game! Rather than overwhelm you with a huge update, we thought we’d start to post regular devlogs about specific features as we lead up to our Alpha Version Release. So, as the first of many, this week we have a little surprise:
A NEW CHARACTER!
That’s right! In addition to the Archer and Fighter, we’re bringing a third playable character into BEATS TO KILL TO. Those who have been keeping up with the stream may have an idea who this is, but before we introduce them we want to talk about their playstyle.
If the Fighter is best played in close-quarters, and the Archer specializes in ranged attacks, we wanted a character that could compete with both of these without pushing either of them out of their niche. Without reworking the combat system in place too drastically, it was a challenge to create the balance this game requires. However, we think you’ll be excited for what this character has to offer.
In order to hold their own at both ranges currently in play, we created a third area for this new character to specialize: Illusion.
This character is tricky, deploying decoys across the battlefield. You’ll have to watch your back at all times to not get caught with your pants down attacking a ghost. Their movement speed and invisibility lets them get in close or evade even the most accurate of Archers.
With this character, we expect to see the competitive environment of BTKT change significantly. Even for people that will still prefer the first two characters, they’ll need to be aware of the possibility of being deceived at all times.
But that’s only the defensive side of their moveset. While this character is confusing their enemies with their decoys, they have time to charge up a lethal beam attack. Taking a full 8 beats to ready and stalling you when fired, but capable of an OHKO if you can connect, this attack is the highest damage output so far.
We’ve talked them up enough, it’s time for you to meet them.
